Last week the Pirates added dual-threat quarterback David Pindell to the roster for this upcoming season. During the 2021 season, Pindell played in the National Arena League for the Albany Empire and contributed to the team winning the championship. One of Pindell’s teammates from Albany, offensive lineman Roubbens Joseph, was recently signed by the team in December and had high praise for his former teammate’s work ethic.
When Joseph was asked about his experience playing with Pindell he said, “David was a solid guy that you can trust to get the job done. He’s always putting in extra work off the field.” During Pindell’s time with the Empire, he appeared in four games and was a threat not only with his arm but was a dynamic rusher as well. During those four games, Pindell completed 6 of 10 passes for 68 yards with two touchdowns and also had 12 rushes for 18 yards with two scores.
As a scrambling quarterback, there’s always a risk in them getting injured from getting hit the wrong way by a defender. Joseph mentions that shouldn’t be a problem for Pindell and went on to say, “He’s a tough dude as well and he’s not afraid of contact. You have to love seeing that in your QB.” The 6’1”, 205 lb. quarterback’s past performances playing in the National Arena League, Fan Controlled League, and the Canadian Football League shows that he’s not afraid to put his body at risk and scramble out of the pocket. This especially showed during his senior season at UConn when he broke the single-season record rushing record for quarterbacks by gaining 1,139 yards.
Pindell will join the Pirates quarterback room with United Bowl MVP Alejandro Bennifield and with both of their experience winning championships, they could help each other become even better.
