Yesterday afternoon, the first contract of the 2020 NFL offseason was signed when Ryan Tannehill and the Titans tied the knot on a 4 year $118 million contract with the Tennessee Titans.

This contract will pay Tannehill $29.5 million over the next 4 seasons and will make him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league. This contract value is as high as Russell Wilson’s $35 million paycheck, but for the 2019 AP Comeback Player of the Year, it’s well deserved.

Last season, Tannehill took the league by storm after he was named the starter following Marcus Mariota’s drastic decline during the first six games of the 2019 season. Tennessee was stuck with a 2-4 record to start the season under Mariota and were looking for a change to help revive their season. Mike Vrabel, the Titans head coach, decided to slot Tannehill as the starter for Week 7,and this decision rewarded the Titans with a 7-3 record to end the season. With Tannehill’s style, he changed the offensive approach to more run heavy but he was able to make the necessary throws to keep the drive going.

Tannehill was able to change the course of his career from a first round bust that was a backup into a consistent franchise quarterback that helped lead the Titans to an AFC Championship. Tennessee’s success wasn’t all due to Tannehill’s play since Derrick Henry averaged 196 yards per game in the playoffs, but this Titans team definitely has a lot to look forward to for the next 4 years.
